Famous Panoramic Paintings
There are several famous panoramic paintings that are available for view on the public. On the panorama history, paintings are the most popular from the 19th century. Several painters exhibited their works, and there are still a few antique panoramic paintings remaining. The common subject matter of these paintings are beautiful sceneries, cities, warfare reenactments, and several important events. One of the oldest among the famous panoramic paintings is the work of Marquard Wocher. He put the town of Thun, Switzerland into a panoramic painting. Another surviving panoramic painting is the Panorama Mesdag. The said panorama is a cylindrical painting. With the size of 14 meters high and 40 meters in diameter, the viewer will definitely feel the realistic viewing of the painting. It is painted by Hendrik Willem Mesdag, a notable marine painter. This panoramic painting was completed by the year 1881. His wife and some of student painters assisted him to finish the panorama.
The Raclawice Panorama is a panoramic painting that illustrates a battle. The subject matter of the said painting is the Battle of Raclawice which is only one of the first battles of the Kościuszko Uprising. The battle is against the country of Russia and is started on April 4, 1794. The Racklawice Panorama is a classic cycloramic painting that depicts several sceneries of the battle. On different angles of view, the viewer will see the different memories from the Battle of Raclawice. The main idea of doing this panorama came from the painter Jan Styka and asked his co-painter Wojciech Kossak to help him on this painting. They were assisted by several painters. They used different techniques, medium, and lighting effects to effectively illustrate the battle’s realism.
